Visit Massilia exists because Marseille is hard to visit in English and almost impossible in German: tours in French only, museums without translation, boat operators who do not answer emails. We fill that gap with practical, first-hand pages.
What this site is
An independent travel guide to Marseille, in English and German, focused on the questions visitors actually type into a search engine: how to rent a boat with a skipper, how to get from the airport to the Vieux-Port, what to do with one day from a cruise ship, whether Marseille is safe, whether it beats Nice. The name comes from Massilia, the Roman name of the city.
Who writes it
A small editorial team living in Marseille, between the Vieux-Port and the Corniche, working in French, English and German. We are not a tour company and we do not sell anything ourselves. The photographs are ours, taken over several years of walking, cycling and sailing around the city.
How the site earns money
Two ways, both disclosed. First, affiliate links to booking platforms for boats, activities and hotels: if you book through them we earn a commission and you pay the same price. Second, partner requests: when you ask us for a skippered yacht or a boutique hotel through the form, we forward it to an operator we have vetted, who pays us a referral fee if you book. Neither changes what we write. When something is bad, we say so.

Four rules we do not break
Own photographs
Every image on the site was taken in Marseille by us. If we have not been somewhere, there is no photo and no page.
Walked, timed, checked
Routes are walked, bus lines are ridden, boats are boarded. Prices are given as ranges with the date we last checked them.
Transparent money
Affiliate links are marked. Partner requests are forwarded to operators we have met. Nobody pays to be recommended.
